Elon Musk waives purchase of Twitter, company goes to court

The party is canceled after all: Elon Musk waives the purchase of Twitter. That had been in the air for a while, because the billionaire was very critical of the social medium. The company is going to court to keep Musk at his word.

Read on after the ad.

Elon Musk doesn’t want Twitter anymore

Elon Musk’s lawyers say Twitter did not adhere to the terms of the deal. Requests for information were ignored or denied. The social medium would also have made false statements.

Since the announcement of the takeover, Musk and Twitter have been rumbling. According to the billionaire, the company was not honest about the number of spam bots on the platform. They automatically post content of a dubious nature. Twitter said it was at most 5 percent of all accounts, but Musk didn’t believe that. One of his main goals was to completely ban these bots from the medium.

Musk must pay a $1 billion fine under the terms if he abandons the acquisition. However, Twitter is not going to let it go. The company is determined to keep Musk at his word and is going to court. That is probably the start of a long legal battle.

These were Musk’s plans

Some users will regret that Elon Musk is not going to buy Twitter after all. Others are probably breathing a sigh of relief. The eccentric businessman wanted to take much less strict action against excesses of free speech. That could have led to an increase in bullying and racism on the social medium. Without supervision, there would also no longer be a brake on the dissemination of misleading information.

Musk wanted to give users further insight into Twitter’s algorithms, so that they understand what data the company collects. In addition, he was in favor of being able to edit Tweets. The medium was already experimenting with this before the takeover.
