Electric driving remains cheaper than petrol

In 2022, electric driving will become more expensive. This concerns both the purchase price and the user costs. The main reasons for this include rising energy costs and higher insurance premiums.

Nevertheless, driving an electric car at 61.4 cents per kilometer is still cheaper than driving a petrol car. You pay an average of 63.4 cents per kilometer for a petrol car. When calculating the average price per kilometre, costs such as depreciation, maintenance and consumption costs were taken into account.

Why switch to electric driving?

According to the well-known South Korean car brand Hyundai, electric driving can be called useful. In addition to the advantage that electric driving does not emit any CO2, electric driving is also becoming increasingly (financially) accessible. The government wants to stop selling new cars with emissions by 2030. From then on, only zero-emission cars will be produced. To stimulate the sale of electric cars, consumers do not have to pay motor vehicle tax for private use. There is also a lower addition percentage.

The Netherlands and Denmark are frontrunners in the EU

The roads are increasingly dominated by electric vehicles. Of the European countries surveyed, the Netherlands and Denmark are the largest leaders when it comes to electric cars. In both countries, electric driving is 3.7 percent and 4 percent of the total. In addition, the Netherlands is in the lead when it comes to the highest number of public charging points in Europe. On average, a public charging station is available for one in three electric cars.

In addition to the public charging stations, it is also possible to have your own charging station installed at home. The big advantage of a charging station at home is that you can always charge. You can choose from a wallbox or charging station.

High purchase price EV causes doubts

The high purchase price of electric vehicles in particular is what stumbling consumers over when switching to electric driving. The average purchase price of a new EV rose in 2021 from 43,000 euros to 45,000 euros. Consumers are willing to pay 13,000 euros for a used electric car.

To make the second-hand market for electric vehicles more attractive, Europe is setting up second-hand electric cars. These plans are part of the social climate fund and are more necessary. The screaming shortage of affordable electric second-hand cars is expected to increase.
