DuckDuckGo works on a desktop browser with a focus on privacy

Company DuckDuckGoKnown for its privacy-oriented search engine of the same name, it works on a desktop web browser. According to the portal TheVerge its priority should also be to strive for user privacy when surfing websites.

The desktop browser will be similar to a mobile application

DuckDuckGo CEO Gabriel Weinberg at his blog offers a look at what a desktop browser will look like. According to its description, it will work in the same way as the DuckDuckGo mobile application, which is also available for the Android platform. By default, the desktop browser will offer a high level of protection without the hassle of turning it on in its settings.

As in the mobile application, we will find the “Fire” button, which immediately clears the entire browsing history, stored data and cards with one click. Gabriel Weinberg claims that the first tests of the browser indicate that it is significantly faster than Google Chrome. The browser will use the native API interface (WebView / WebView2) of Windows and macOS when rendering pages.

Therefore, in Windows 10, the browser will use the same kernel for rendering as Edge or Chromium, but all other elements (such as tab and bookmark management, navigation controls, passwords, etc.) will be created by the company itself. The browser is currently in a closed beta test for macOS. It is not yet known when the desktop browser will be publicly available.

DuckDuckGo strives to improve its products on a regular basis. Last month, it introduced a built-in tool for its mobile app to prevent apps from being tracked by Android users. And in July, the company launched an email protection service to remove all trackers attached to your emails.
