When the school calls, eighty scenarios flash through your mind, none of them good. Fortunately, disaster is not always the case. As with Miranda (39), mother of Amber (7).

“My daughter’s kindergarten teacher was quite embarrassed and barely dared to say it on the phone, but she wanted to warn me. I shouldn’t be shocked if I were to pick up Amber (then 4) from after school care, because ‘she had played caper and looked just like the Pied Piper of Hamelin’.

During playtime, Amber and her friends Mare (5) and Sofie (4) took turns asking if they could pee. Teacher let them go, not knowing that they were not going to the toilet, but to the craft corner where all the scissors were. According to Amber, they only wanted to cut a rubber band on Mare, which was tangled, but accidentally went with her entire tail. They then decided to cut each other’s hair. With Amber a crooked pony about an inch short, with Sofie a whole lock of hair disappeared.

“The teacher was afraid I would get angry.”

Teacher was afraid I would get angry, but hey, it’s just hair, it just grows back by itself. I work in healthcare, I know you don’t have eyes in the back of your mind. In any case, deep respect for someone with 28 toddlers in a class.”
