Disney Is Late: Marvel Fans Expect Bad News

Marvel is in the middle of building the new big phase of the MCU. But there is sand in the gears. Several movies about the Avengers and other Marvel heroes have missed a new start date – a later one to be exact. Among them is an absolute fan favorite.

Blade issues are delaying Marvel’s MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering a new phase. After the previous high point with the end of the Infinity saga, remakes of well-known subjects, but also some new faces, should continue to uphold the success of the superhero films. But some projects in the new Multiverse saga have now been postponed, as Marvel Studios has announced.

The most affected is the remake of blades, because here the theatrical release will be pushed back the furthest. Instead of being released on November 3, 2023 as previously planned, the new film about the vampire-born daywalker will not appear until September 6, 2024 – almost a whole year later (source: Marvel). Problems in the pre-production phase are said to be to blame. Large parts of the script have to be revised, and a successor to director Bassam Tariq has apparently not yet been found. The start of filming has been delayed accordingly.

Blade becomes a problem for subsequent Marvel films. Within the MCU, the releases build heavily on each other, so Blade is likely to have caused delays in these films:

  • dead pool 3 (Title unknown): The return of Deadpool – and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine – was originally scheduled for September 6, 2024, when Blade is now scheduled to be released. Deadpool moves with it to the November 8, 2024.
  • Fantastic Four: The reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise is superseded by Deadpool in the episode. The launch slips from September 6, 2024 to the February 14, 2025. It remains to be seen whether Fantastic Four, like Deadpool, will become a Valentine’s Day film.
  • Avengers: Secret Wars: The second Avengers movie of the coming phases of the MCU is also pushed back significantly. Instead of the originally planned November 7, 2025, the film should now on May 1, 2026 start in cinemas.

Two more MCU films will also be postponed, of which no title is known so far. One moves from February 14 to November 7, 2025, while the untitled May 1, 2026 film now has no start date at all for now.

Deadpool 3 is definitely coming and promises to be a hit despite the delay:

How is the delay affecting Marvel series on Disney+?

It is currently unclear how the changes in Disney’s or Marvel’s schedule will affect other projects. However, since both the films themselves and the Marvel series universe are now becoming ever more closely intertwined, effects on other content and thus on the Disney + program are conceivable – although not officially confirmed.
