We open the Web app in the browser on the iPhone. In the first step, we load the QR code of the vaccination certificate in the form of a PDF into the web app. We receive such a document, for example, from the relevant authorities. However, this works with any PDF file that contains a valid QR code. For example, we were also able to simply use a screenshot from the Corona warning app, in which a proof of vaccination was already integrated – it worked for us with the proof of both vaccination doses.
Then we choose a background color for the passport, accept the data protection information and, in the last step, create the vaccination certificate via “Add to Wallet”. That which has now been generated and presented to us We can simply add the document to the iPhone’s wallet app.
Tip: Open the vaccination record in the lock screen
But why is the vaccination certificate to hand now, don’t I have to unlock the iPhone first, open the wallet app and then select the digital vaccination card? No, because We also have access to the wallet app on the iPhone’s lock screen. If we tap the home button twice on the iPhone, or twice the side button from the iPhone X onwards, the wallet app opens or we are presented with credit cards stored for Apple Pay. But then we can also simply select the vaccination certificate with a tap at the bottom of the screen – it doesn’t get any faster. Important to know: According to the developer, the entire process only runs locally in the browser and on the device. A version of the vaccination certificate only needs to be sent to the server to issue the signature, but this is immediately discarded after the end of the browser session and is not saved anywhere.
