The balcony power plant scandal in Germany has now reached China. The Chinese company Deye, whose inverters do not meet the standard without a specific relay and therefore do not actually have approval, is now planning a solution that actually sounds pretty good.

Deye wants to retrofit inverters

In Germany, many owners of Deye inverters are currently worried. The Chinese manufacturer has dispensed with a relay, which is actually prescribed according to a VDE standard and ensures that the electricity is cut off when the plug is pulled from the socket. This caused a gigantic outcry and a lot of uncertainty. Now, at least in China, Deye has presented a solution that affects German customers.

Deye’s solution looks like this:

  1. First of all, Deye said at an investor meeting, where the exact topic was discussed, that the Customer safety is top priority and you didn’t want to save money by doing without the relay.
  2. There will be an upgrade program. Customers will appreciate their Deye inverters to retrofit a relay, which means that the inverter then meets the standard again. This is probably plugged in between the inverter and the socket and fulfills the same function as when installed. The Chinese company has invited several certification bodies to take a closer look at the solution. The plan is to be implemented within a month.
  3. The upgrade is free and anyone can make the change to the inverter themselves without calling in craftsmen or professionals. The The guarantee has also been extended from 10 to 15 years. According to Deye, 400,000 devices are in use in Germany.

In the video, Andreas Schmitz, who helped uncover the balcony power plant scandal, explains what he thinks of this solution:

Deye expects no punishment

Deye is very convinced in the statement and indicates that one is already in contact with the responsible authorities in Germany and they will not penalize the Chinese manufacturer for this violation. Deye also states that the German market plays a minor role for the company and accounts for only 2 percent of sales.

Since the Federal Network Agency has so far been silent and basically the many YouTubers have taken over the work to investigate the scandal, no final statements can be made on this yet. So the case remains very exciting.
