If you buy an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max, you can’t ignore the Dynamic Island. The bar that replaces the notch has all kinds of useful functions. Thanks to small icons, you can see what is being played, for example, or which device has just been connected to your device. Do you get a call? Then you see who you are trying to reach.
All very useful, but of course there are also conceivable applications that are simply fun. Developers come up with all kinds of tricks for the Dynamic Island. This is how you use it in the new game Hit the Island to play Pong. The concept is very simple: you have to bounce a ball against the static bar and catch it again with a second, movable bar at the bottom of the screen. However, it sometimes changes shape and, moreover, now and then there are suddenly two balls in play.

Even more fun is what Christian Selig came up with. His Reddit app Apollo has gained new residents. Selig added a cat that sits like a tamagotchi on the Dynamic Island as you scroll through Reddit. Occasionally he walks back and forth or takes a nap. Cat haters can also choose other animals, such as a dog or a hedgehog.
Selig appropriately calls this feature the “Dynamic Island Zoo.” Cats and dogs are available in the free version of the app. For the other animals you have to subscribe to the Ultra version. If you don’t have an iPhone 14 Pro (Max), you can still add the animals as a widget on the lock screen. Your iPhone must be running on iOS 16.
