December 9th will be a crucial day

From January 1, 2023, the new guideline for the environmental bonus will apply. There will then be new rules and less money for e-cars. But nothing has been finally decided yet. December 9, 2022 will be the deadline before that.

If you want to buy an electric car, you should be fast – really fast. Because already with the turn of the year in a few weeks there will be less money. At least that is the plan that has been in place for months – but has not yet been finalized. The decisive day for this comes on December 9th.

December 9: E-car fans should mark this date in bold

From this date, the new funding guideline for the environmental bonus will officially apply, as the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) has announced. It is planned for December 9th that the new guideline will appear in the Federal Gazette final version will be determined. The Central Association of the German Motor Trade (ZDK) has now informed its members about the schedule (source: Car operation.bird).

E-car customers should then have final certainty as to how much funding they can still expect for an electric car registered in 2023. The fact that there will be no more money for plug-in hybrids is considered irrefutable. The expected funding volume for pure electric cars is also unlikely to change. The federal funding share is to increase from 6,000 euros maximum 4,500 euros be clipped together, depending on the list price less.

Lease an e-car and collect an environmental bonus

The only change that is still expected concerns the next deadline on September 1, 2023. From then on, companies should be excluded from funding. However, private individuals and non-profit associations should still be able to apply for the environmental bonus.

It will probably not come to that: “According to the now known guideline only private individuals continue to benefit from the environmental bonus. Non-profit organizations are no longer considered, as are tradespeople, including small businesses,” says Marcus Weller from the ZDK.

From 2023, e-cars will definitely perform worse in price comparisons:

E-car customers have to brace themselves: there will be cuts in 2023

All of this is still subject to the condition that the planned funding is sufficient. The plan still provides 2.1 billion euros for 2023 and 1.4 billion euros for 2024. If the funds are exhausted earlier, e-car buyers get nothing. The criticism of making the funding dependent on the order date instead of the approval date has probably gone unheeded. E-car buyers will therefore have to swallow a lot of bucks in the coming year. But at least we’ll know for sure which ones it will be from December 9th.
