Cyclists’ union warns of accidents in Apeldoorn
The Fietsersbond Apeldoorn is angry about the new cattle grids that the municipality has placed in Apeldoorn. The bars are slanted instead of straight. The municipality has indicated that the schedules are safe for traffic. However, there are doubts as to whether sufficient thought has been given to the safety of cyclists.

Why are cattle grids installed?
A game grid is also called a cattle grid. This grid in the ground of a road or path must ensure that the game or livestock in a certain area cannot escape. These are mainly wild boars, red deer, fallow deer and roe deer. It is possible for pedestrians, cyclists and other traffic to walk or drive over the grid. But is this also the case in Apeldoorn?
‘Accidents will happen here’ is what the Fietsersbond Apeldoorn has announced. The situation surrounding the cattle grids has generated a lot of media attention. Omroep Gelderland has made a short report. For example, it is said that this new grille no longer has horizontal bars, but bars at an angle of 45 degrees. This should reduce noise.
Curious about the report? You can see it in the video below:
What is the result of the fuss?
The Fietsersbond thinks the newly designed cattle grid is very dangerous. Despite the fact that the municipality of Apeldoorn has announced that the schedule is safe, a compromise is still made. 70 centimeters of ‘normal’ grid will be placed in a next newly placed grid.
What can you do yourself to be safe on the road?
No matter how pleasant cycling is experienced, it is not without risks. Especially with the elderly and children, it is necessary to draw attention to safety on your bicycle. Helmets are currently compulsory for all motorcyclists and moped riders. This also includes the speed pedelec: the electric bicycle that can reach a speed of up to 45 kilometers per hour.
Serious injuries can be prevented by wearing a bicycle helmet. The risk of serious injury after an accident is 60% lower for cyclists who were wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. The chance of a fatal brain injury with a bicycle helmet is reduced by 71%.
Approved helmet for the speed pedelec
The Abus Pedelec 2.0 is an approved speed pedelec helmet, with an excellent combination of comfort and protection. With the low sleeping area that the helmet has, the helmet offers excellent protection. The USB LED rear light of the Pedelec 2.0 ensures that you are clearly visible in the dark. There is also an integrated rain hood that can be pulled over the helmet during a rain shower.
This helmet is available in the color black-blue for a purchase price of 179.95 euros.
