Customize profile picture and name in Messages – that’s how it works

Create profile in Messages
Messages is Apple’s own app for sending text messages. The app, also known as iMessage, also allows you to send messages over the internet. The app is standard on your iPhone, but has many functions that are sometimes forgotten. Don’t have the app (anymore) on your phone? Messages is free to download from the App Store:
A feature in Messages that you should not forget is setting a profile picture and changing your name. This way it is immediately clear to the person you are sending a message to who you are. Don’t want everyone to see your profile picture and name? That is also easy to set up.
Set profile picture and name in Messages
Setting up a profile picture and name in Messages is a breeze. Do you want to set a photo? Then it is useful to find a suitable photo in your photo library and add it to your favorites. That saves some searching when setting up the photo. If you don’t have a suitable photo, it is also possible to set your initials or your Memoji.
To set your profile picture and name, follow these steps:
Set profile picture in your Messages on iPhone
- Go to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone or iPad;
- Scroll down and tap ‘Messages’;
- Choose ‘Share name and photo’;
- Tap on ‘Choose name and photo’;
- Select the desired profile picture and press ‘Continue’;
- Then enter your name;
- Under Auto-Share, choose who can see your photo and name, then tap Done.
If you do not want everyone to see your photo and name in Messages, it is wise to choose ‘Contacts only’. Your profile picture and set name are then only visible to contacts that you have saved in your phone.
