Copy-paste finally possible in Google Drive through keyboard shortcuts

Google Drive finally has keyboard shortcuts. For example, you can cut, copy and paste within the tool, so that you can organize your files faster. It is typically a question of: was this really not there yet? But that it’s there now, that’s a big plus.

The new keyboard shortcuts are coming to Drive on the web and only in the Chrome browser. In addition, the button combinations are quite standard: Ctrl-C, Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V and Ctrl-Enter, that’s about it. Google writes: “Hotkeys save you time by allowing you to copy one or more files and move them to new locations in Drive and across multiple tabs with fewer clicks.”

In addition, a link to the file and its title are captured when copying, so you can easily paste them into an email or document. Google: “To help you organize files in multiple locations more easily without necessarily creating duplicate files, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-Shift-V will create shortcuts.” You can open files or folders in a new tab with Ctrl+Enter. This way you can quickly view several files at the same time and make organizing easier.

It was already quite simple to move files by dragging, but if you are used to working with cut and paste, you can now do this quickly thanks to the keys. So if you use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-Shift-V, you can create a shortcut to get to a file faster.

The author of this piece already had it (Google indicates it with a popup as soon as you open Drive in Chrome), but it may not have arrived with you yet. The rollout has now started and will take a few more weeks.
