Contactless payment issues after Google Pixel update

Some Google Pixel smartphones have problems with contactless payments after the update. After downloading the March update, it is no longer possible to pay contactless. It does not occur on all devices, but a number of them can no longer pay contactless via Google Pay.

It doesn’t seem to be a specific type of device: the problems pop up randomly. So if you pay a lot of contactless with your Pixel, it might be better to wait a little longer before downloading the update that came out last Monday (although you will miss certain security updates). Have you downloaded the update, but there are no problems? Bad news: the problem can just happen out of the blue, writes 9to5Google.

You can recognize it by a message on your screen that says: “Your phone doesn’t meet software standards”. You cannot make contactless purchases with the device. Google Pay can still be used to make online payments. You can also see the status of your contactless payment without that notification. To do this, go to your account avatar in the Play Store > Settings > About > Play Protect Certification.

Contactless payment

It has nothing to do with unstable beta versions: this is just about the big update going to everyone. You could also choose to enter the Android Beta program to fix it, but it does mean that you will have to stay on that variant of Android until the release of Android 12 QPR3 in June. So maybe it’s better to wait for Google to come up with a solution.

The problem seems to affect all kinds of Pixel devices: 4a, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 anyway. It seems to be on the side of Google, so it is hoped that the company will soon come up with a new update that will allow everyone to pay contactless again to their heart’s content.
