compact high-end phone with Snapdragon 870

Xiaomi is working behind the scenes on a small smartphone with powerful performance. The Xiaomi 12X is more compact than a Google Pixel 5 but runs on a Snapdragon 870. Xiaomi is set to announce the phone next month.

Samsung released its Galaxy S21 this year with a smaller 6.2-inch screen, compared to the S21 Plus and Ultra variant. Its Competitor Xiaomi, which is competing for the title of largest smartphone manufacturer, opted for a different approach. The Mi 11 is no less than 6.81 inches: a world of difference.

It seems that Xiaomi now has plans to respond to the target audience of smaller flagships. The Xiaomi 12X has surfaced in a database of IMEI numbers and the device is codenamed ‘psyche’. It is striking that the phone measures only 45.4 x 64.5 mm. That means that it is one millimeter longer than Google’s compact Pixel 5, but 5 millimeters narrower.

Powerful specifications

Twitter user Kacper Skrzypek has spotted the phone and knows that it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870. The device has a Full HD OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. On the back we expect a 50 MP main camera. For the time being, nothing more is known about the phone, but given the small size and the choice for the Snapdragon 870, we expect it to be a high-end device with a somewhat more accessible price. The regular Xiaomi 12 is rumored to come with the upcoming Snapdragon 898.

ASUS was able to tell Androidworld this summer that there is a large potential market for smaller flagships, according to its research. With that in mind, the company has launched the ZenFone 8.
