Android updates are not just for smartphones and tablets. The Chromecast, which is equipped with Google TV, is also equipped with Android. Now the time has come for this media stick to be updated with an update to Android 12. As with this update for smartphones, new functions are also being rolled out to this media stick that you can use after installing the update. Previously, this Chromecast was equipped with an Android version that was based on Android 10.

The update is more than 700MB in size and brings new user settings with which you can adjust certain things. This involves setting the HDR quality and surround sound. Settings can also be adjusted for the frame rate of content, and this also applies to scaling the image and text, this can be done via the ‘Match’ function. From now on, an indicator will also be shown when the microphone or camera is used.

Google has also provided the Chromecast with Google TV 4K with various privacy and security improvements. Among other things, the patch level has been updated to the July 2022 security update. The opportunity is also being used to fix bugs and errors that have crept in.

The update will be rolled out from now on. You will receive a notification when you can download the new Android 12 update. Optionally, you can manually check whether you can already download the update. To do this, tap your profile picture in the top right corner. Then go to Settings > System > About > System Update.

Recently you can buy the Chromecast with Google TV 2K in the Netherlands. This is a lot cheaper than the 4K model.
