Entertainment Weekly magazine brings the first specific details about the upcoming reboot of the film adaptation of the famous fighting game Mortal Kombat. We have known about Simon McQuoid’s directorial debut since May 2019, when the film was announced and was to enter the pre-production phase; less than two years later, the film was shot, is currently anchored in the editing room, and on April 16 it will be released simultaneously in cinemas and on the HBO Max streaming platform. Impatient and slightly nervous fans, however, now have the opportunity to look at the first photos directly from the film and learn more about the fatalities, age rating and especially the new character, which will be the fighter Cole Young.
It is he who should become the central hero of the film and a means of bringing together old famous warriors. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cole Young arrives on the scene when he is not in a completely relaxed state and tries to dust off his own faded MMA fighter through illegal matches. However, Cole lost faith, according to the filmmakers, luck turned its back on him and the only thing that really drives him is his insatiable desire to fight. He also has a mark on his chest that he does not understand, but which, along with others, predisposes him to fight against the followers of Outerworld. Later, therefore, Cole meets Jackson Briggs, aka Jax, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Kung Laem, Kane, and, of course, Lord Riaden, with whom he confronts Scorpion and other warriors. According to McQuoid, the filmmakers really let you care about the fight scenes, which will be duly bloody, and as we know from previous information, they will also include iconic fatalities.
There are some really crazy fatalities, including the most iconic ones. You’ll see some great moves and lots of easter eggs, says actor Lewis Tan.
“We discussed for a long time how to balance everything, because there were a lot of nasty scenes, blood and fatalities in the film,” the director describes the situation in which the issue of the final age rating was addressed. In the end, however, he admitted that all the things described above remained in the film, and Mortal Kombat will therefore be intended for adults. “There are some really crazy fatalities, including the most iconic ones. You will see some great movements and a lot of easter eggs, “adds the director actor Lewis Tan, the protagonist of Cole Young. Those blinks towards the players and experts of the lora are to include the entire introduction, which is to be devoted to the clash of Hans Hasashi (Scorpion) and Bi-Han (Sub-Zero) in the period of feudal Japan in the area of approximately 10 minutes.
Everything is supposed to take place before the two mentioned acquire their supernatural abilities, and it is said that the beginning of the film has a touch of family drama with exceptionally brutal dueling scenes. After all, director McQuod himself explains that this very story, the cornerstone of most future clashes, must be told through a duel for which the filmmakers use special camera movements and are not afraid. get your hands dirty. It is said that fans should not expect anything noble and polished, on the contrary – a straightforward, bloody and – once again – brutal action, corresponding to a high age rating. “I just wanted to make sure we honored the original stuff, lore Mortal Kombat, the fans and the love they show,” adds McQuoid.
