Cheaper Tesla for everyone? Elon Musk is reviving the e-car dream

If you want to drive a Tesla, you usually have to dig deep into your pocket. Above all, the recent cost increases have turned the former entry-level Model 3 into a significantly more expensive pleasure. CEO Elon Musk has now breathed new life into dreams of a cheap Tesla.

Can you take Elon Musk’s word for it? Tesla fans will surely cite that the automaker has so far delivered, albeit often late. The grand plan alone to form Tesla to start a movement toward the EV switch is strong evidence. But the Tesla boss keeps making promises that he doesn’t keep at all or doesn’t keep exactly as announced – just think of the back and forth to the Twitter purchase.

Elon Musk brings back the dream of cheap Tesla

But now fetch Tesla returned a project that Musk had declared canceled earlier this year: The dream of cheap Tesla may continue to be dreamed. Following the official presentation of the business figures for the third quarter of 2022, Musk stated when asked about future models:

“The next-generation vehicle will be around the Half the price of the platform for Model 3 and Model Y and it will be smaller. It will, I think, certainly exceed the production of all other vehicles combined.” Insideevs).

The smaller and, above all, cheaper Tesla is back on course. The upcoming electric car should therefore be on Tesla’s third platform. Currently, the premium vehicles Model S and Model X share a platform, while Model 3 and Model Y are also on their own platform. This has already significantly reduced prices at Tesla. The third should enable up to a further 50 percent cost savings and is, according to Musk “the team’s primary focus for new vehicle development.”

Mini-Tesla: Price tag remains big unknown

Those who are now looking forward to the originally expected Tesla for 25,000 US dollars could be disappointed. In Musk’s statements, the cost minimization of 50 percent relates primarily to production. It is not said that this is why the purchase price falls so significantly. Nevertheless, it has to be lower than with the Model 3, which has so far covered the middle class at Tesla. There is no launch window for the mini Tesla yet.
