iPad 2022: Home button disappears, but Touch ID remains

This year – perhaps as early as next month – Apple will already release the tenth generation of its most affordable iPad. The reliable Apple insider Mark Gurman previously reported that we can expect a major update. There will be a new design with a larger screen, USB-C and more.

Now it suggests varyingly reliable Macotakara that Touch ID “may be the same as the iPad mini.” This means that the fingerprint scanner is integrated into the power button, just like the iPad mini and iPad Air.

New design

Should this happen, the entry-level iPad will have a modern design, with the edges being a lot narrower due to the lack of the home button. This makes the device very similar to the iPad Air (see photo below). One of the main differences is the processor. The 10th generation iPad is expected to have an A14 chip, while the iPad Air 2022 will have an M1 processor.

In addition, Macotakara with a notable rumor: the FaceTime HD camera “could be on the right.” This probably means the portrait orientation. If you tilt the iPad to landscape mode, the camera is in the middle. This would be a welcome change for video calling, because now it looks like you’re looking past the screen.

Launch

Apple is expected to launch the 2022 entry-level iPad in October, though some sources suggest it will be as early as September. In addition, the tech giant is developing a new version of the iPad Pro 2022, which is expected to appear in October.
