CD Projekt had “underestimated the extent of the problems”

After Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous debut, CD Project had no other choice but to apologize. The studio explains that it has imposed unrealistic deadlines on itself and even mentions the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the massacre. He also promises that patches will arrive soon to repair the damage.

“We underestimated the scale and complexity of the problems, we ignored the red flags that told us to delay the game’s release.” CD Projekt finally explained itself on the disaster that was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, especially the last gen consoles. The least we can say is that the development studio has achieved the level of player dissatisfaction. The game is indeed riddled with bugs, to the point of making penises appear for no reason.

After a first apology that made Elon Musk react in two strange tweets, CD Projekt finally returned to the case. “After 3 postponements, we, the board, were too focused on the goal of getting the game out. […] It was the wrong strategy and it is against our philosophy. In addition, during the promotion campaign, we showed the game almost exclusively on PC. The players have lost confidence in us. “

CD Projekt misjudged the workload

The studio also discusses the constraints related to COVID-19 pandemic, which prevented him from having the game tested by some of his employees. Nevertheless, he recognizes that this is not a major reason for the result delivered. Indeed, CD Projekt confesses to having “Worked on the last-gen versions »And adds having thought “Be able to succeed in time”. In addition, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have passed under the radar of checks from Sony and Microsoft, for versions PS4 and Xbox One. The studio explains that in reality they thought they could fix the bugs before release and believe that “The fault is entirely [son] side ”.

Even so, the game got off to a great start and even saw Steam break its attendance record. Still, PS4 and Xbox One players must be content with a (very) version poorly optimized. Fortunately, CD Projekt has claimed that future patches, announced for January and February 2021, should allow the game to run without crashes or bugs and with a significantly improved graphics rendering. The studio has also made reference to the quality of NPCs and plans to step up their AI. No information has yet been given on the multiplayer mode, the developers probably preferring to focus on the story mode.
