Call of Duty will stay on PlayStation, promises Phil Spencer (Microsoft)
Phil Spencer, the boss of Microsoft’s video game branch, assures that the franchise call of duty will remain available on PlayStation, despite the acquisition of Activision. As a reminder, Microsoft announced the takeover of Activision Blizzard (which publishes and distributes call of duty) for $68.7 billion.
“As long as there is a PlayStation, our intention is to continue to bring Call of Duty to PlayStation, as we did with Minecraft. Since owning it, we’ve expanded the places people can play Minecraft.”, said Phil Spencer on the Same Brain podcast. “We haven’t reduced locations and that’s been good for the Minecraft community, in my opinion, and I want to do the same when we think about where Call of Duty can go over the years.”
Speaking at the Wall Street Journal’s tech conference last week, Phil Spencer also hinted that he plans to wear call of duty on the Nintendo Switch in order to treat the franchise as Minecraft and maintain it on competing platforms.
The fans of call of duty wondered if Microsoft was going to make the game exclusive to Xbox since news of the Activision acquisition broke. Phil Spencer was quick to state publicly that Microsoft had a desire to keep call of duty on PlayStation, but a written commitment to Sony wasn’t enough to allay the PlayStation maker’s concerns. Indeed, Sony called Microsoft’s offer a“inadequate in many respects”.
