Black Friday or as Slovak e-shops again introduced customers

  • Slovak and Czech e-shops were introduced within the Black Friday event
  • Some bright exceptions were also found, but there were few of them
  • Some e-shops did not even offer any real discounts, even though they claimed otherwise on their websites.
  • High discounts approaching 80% are calculated from a price that has long been out of date

Black Friday is supposed to be about attractive discounts, but as you know, this is not always the case. Every year, customers are mentioned that e-shops deceive us. Prior to the “sale”, they artificially raise prices so that they can later indicate a higher percentage discount. An inexperienced customer who does not do market research and only looks at the amount of the discount can fly very quickly.

Fortunately, there is a Czech portal Shop Guard, which is an excellent helper in determining the real amount of the discount. Because it is not a discount like a discount. But in the latest Black Friday 2021 survey, it doesn’t look good for our e-shops. It was found that almost everyone lied about the heights of the discounts. The question remains that whether a one-time profit is worth their reputation. Let’s take a closer look at statistics.

The table below will help us to do this. In it you can clearly see the list of e-shops that launched the Black Friday promotion this year, what the real discount was as part of the promotion, or even how many Black Friday products they offered to their customers. The numbers are very interesting.

Few e-shops have taken Black Friday really transparently

The highest average discount was declared by the Knihydobrovsky.cz e-shop, up to 64%. The real amount of discounts according to the Hlídač Shopů portal was at the level of 58%, which is the highest among all e-shops. However, we must praise the two e-shops that stated the amount of discounts most transparently. The CZC.cz e-shop had an average discount of 18%, which fits exactly with the data from the Shop Watch. The second transparent e-shop was Alza. The average amount of discounts for a green alien was 28%, the Shop Guard stated the number 27%.

Most e-shops introduced. And significantly

Now let’s look at the other side of the table. If we delete the above-mentioned e-shops from it, the view of it is really sad. Here it is beautiful to see how the sellers are trying to make money at all costs. And it is probable that it works for them, certainly this year there were a number of customers who, believing that it was a super discount, bought the goods at a normal, sometimes even higher price.

In the table, you can even see e-shops that reported average discounts of up to 30 percent on their site, but the reality was that they really had no discounts, or their amount was absolutely minimal (in percentage units).

Calculating a discount on retail prices is not always correct

This is most evident in goods that have been on the market for a long time. Although it is still popular, its price has dropped significantly over time. However, e-shops are not ashamed to state the original retail price, which was paid, for example, two or three years ago. Although these goods have been sold significantly cheaper in the given e-shop for a long time, the final discount is calculated from the unrealistic original retail price, which is incredibly overshot at the moment. In this way, e-shops can get discounts that often exceed the 80 percent limit.

If we looked at the amount of the discount compared to the price at which the goods were sold, for example, a month ago, we would suddenly find that it is either significantly lower or none at all.

Summarized and underlined

Again, it turned out that deceiving the customer is not difficult at all. If it doesn’t work, e-shops don’t. There is always someone to catch. In any case, we must state that such misleading and misleading information about discounts certainly does not throw a good name on most of our e-shops.

In the future, we definitely advise our readers not only to look at the amount of the discount that the e-shop lists on its website, but also to do a little market research, at least for a short time. All you have to do is enter a specific product into any price comparator and you will immediately see whether the discount is real or whether the seller is trying to deceive you.
