Bird Sounds Pro teaches you which bird is keeping you awake

The weather is getting warm again and that means that when you come home after going out, you can enjoy the early singing of all kinds of birds. Spoiler: those are probably blackbirds and song thrushes, but did you know that you can also learn that yourself? This week in App of the Week the extensive Bird Sounds Pro app.

There’s something cool about it: being able to tell which bird it is from a bird sound. We usually still recognize a vulture, with its screams: the same applies to a seagull, but there is still a whole wealth of beautiful bird sounds to discover and that is what this app is for. Once you download it you can choose all kinds of bird species, you will see more information about the bird, such as synonyms, characteristics and habitat, plus the possibility to listen to the sounds of the birds. Sometimes these are only sounds from the male bird, but sometimes from both and then it is also included.

You can play the sounds in Bird Sounds Pro, although there is a restriction in the free version: sometimes you have to wait a few seconds before it starts playing, but that is not very disturbing. In any case, after a number of birds it makes you somewhat frantic. This is typically an app that is useful to have on your phone for reading and listening now and then. For example, I found it very funny to look at the pictures, because birds can sometimes make such silly faces. There are several photos of each bird on its ‘profile’ and you can easily swipe through them. Especially the owls are very nice to watch, with their gigantic eyes.

Bird encyclopedia on your smartphone

This app is like a bird encyclopedia on your smartphone and you can even subject yourself to quizzes with it. You then hear a bird and can then choose from 6 birds that it could be. You can even see a photo to make it a little easier for yourself. You can save your favorite birds and it is possible to pay for the app, so that you always have all kinds of birds at your disposal. If you are often in nature, then this app is highly recommended. If you have little use for it, you can completely ignore this app, because this is really all it does: teach you more about birds. However, it does that very well, so I recommend it to anyone who loves animals, is curious about certain sounds from outside and therefore likes to go outside at all.

The only thing we’re missing is some sort of Shazam feature, which lets you record a bird’s chirp or whistle and then hear which beak you’re dealing with. Mus-zam: please add!
