Best OnePlus smartphones you can buy (2022)

The smartphones and the vision of OnePlus are changing. The smartphone manufacturer makes different choices than before and the brand seems to become more and more one with sister company OPPO. And the latter has both pros and cons. The loyal OnePlus fans in particular are behind the latter. In this article we discuss the transformation of OnePlus and tell you which OnePlus smartphone is the best to buy right now.

The best smartphones

Sometimes you can no longer see the ‘smartphone forest’ for the trees. Brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme and Xiaomi are now bringing dozens of smartphones on the market that sometimes look very similar, but are slightly different. In this article series, we therefore discuss the best smartphones from each brand that you can buy right now.

We do this per brand and ascending in price. We mainly look at devices of a certain brand that are a real buying tip in a certain price range. These are smartphones that have features that are not common in a specific price range and therefore also have a good price-quality ratio. Earlier we wrote an article about the best Xiaomi smartphones and about the best Samsung smartphones that you can buy right now. In this article it is OnePlus’ turn.

OnePlus

So, in this article we discuss OnePlus, the smartphone manufacturer that was mainly known for their smartphones with high-end specifications without a real high-end price. The company may have even been the pioneer in this with the OnePlus One. This device came out in 2014 and came with premium specifications for a price of about 400 euros. And the tactic that OnePlus introduced with this device has persisted for years. And that tactic was broadly as follows: a fast affordable smartphone with a clean Android experience, a nice screen and good updates.

The brand is still following this tactic, although we will see around 2020 that changes will be made. In that year, OnePlus changed a bit from a brand for tech enthusiasts into a more mainstream brand for the large market. The company follows the trend of other major smartphone brands, all of which aim to offer a smartphone in every price range. The OnePlus line-up was also expanded as a result. And to achieve this, OnePlus is increasingly collaborating with sister brand OPPO. As a result, however, we see that the OnePlus DNA is disappearing and the ‘Oppofication’ is getting closer and closer. Below we list a number of smartphones from OnePlus, which we think are the best ones to buy.

OnePlus Nord 2T (+- 350 euros)

The cheapest smartphone from OnePlus that we recommend to you is the OnePlus Nord 2T. The Nord 2T is the successor of the ‘normal’ Nord 2 and only comes with a few minor updates. The main ones are the slightly faster processor, slightly faster charging and the new operating system. For the rest, the device is almost identical to its predecessor. Now its predecessor was one of the best smartphones of 2021 in terms of value for money. So in that respect the small number of upgrades is not a big deal, although we secretly hoped for a little more.

But all in all, the Nord 2T is also a good smartphone in the price range around 400 euros. In her review of the Nord 2T, Claudia said the following about the device:

The OnePlus Nord 2T is simply a very good mid-range phone. You get a fast phone for a starting price of 399 euros, with pleasant software that is charged super quickly. The cameras are also okay, with the main camera clearly sticking out. However, there are a lot of similarities with the OnePlus Nord 2 from last year. If you have that phone, there’s little reason to upgrade to this unit. If you have an older phone, you certainly can’t go wrong with the Nord 2T in terms of good value for money.

Here you can buy the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G

The OnePlus Nord 2T 5G can be seen as an improved version of last year’s OnePlus Nord 2. The OnePlus Nord 2T is therefore very similar to the OnePlus Nord 2 except for a number of features. For example, the phone gets higher fast charging options and a newer chipset.

OnePlus 9 Pro (+- 595 euros)

One of the best high-end smartphones of last year currently costs less than 600 euros, we are talking about the OnePlus 9 Pro here. This device was in our list of the best high-end smartphones of 2021 last year and this was not for nothing. The OnePlus 9 Pro has a beautiful and smooth AMOLED panel, a good and extensive camera system, a beautiful, luxurious and own design and a fast processor. The latter is no longer the fastest processor that you can find in an Android smartphone, but in practice you do not notice much of this. The 9 Pro is still very fast and fluid to use.

For people who are looking for a high-end smartphone, but do not want to pay a real high-end price, the OnePlus 9 Pro has come to the right place.

OnePlus 9 Pro

The OnePlus 9 Pro has a 120 Hz Fluid display for beautiful and smooth images. Due to the collaboration with Hasselblad, the camera is top-notch and the Snapdragon 888 chipset provides the speed.

OnePlus 10 Pro (+- 800 euros)

The OnePlus 10 Pro is OnePlus’ current flagship and the device is currently the best OnePlus has to offer. However, with this smartphone, too, the upgrades compared to its predecessor are not very large. For example, the cameras have not been upgraded and the screen has hardly been updated. However, the OnePlus 10 Pro is equipped with a faster Qualcomm 8 Gen 1 chipset and the phone has a larger battery that can also charge faster.

All in all, the OnePlus 10 Pro is a very good high-end smartphone, which also costs less than many competing phones from, for example, OPPO and Samsung. Claudia said in her review of the OnePlus 10 Pro, among other things, the following about the phone:

The OnePlus 10 Pro is a real flagship that stands its ground in the world of high-end smartphones… Despite the lack of real major improvements compared to the OnePlus 9 Pro, with the 10 Pro a strong flagship in its hands, and for a competitive price.

OnePlus 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro is the new top device from OnePlus with an improved LTPO screen, a more powerful fast charger and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The phone has a sturdier 5,000 mAh battery with an 80W fast charger that charges a quarter faster than its predecessor, and a new wide-angle lens with a 150-degree field of view.
