Baldur’s Gate III will see a big update -apkrig next week

The third part of the famous Baldur’s Gate series, which is being created in the Larian studio under the supervision of designer Swen Vincke, will see another major update next Tuesday. The game, which is available in the pre-access program, receives loving care from the authors and it is relatively clear to see what progress it has made in recent months. The fifth big patch not only focuses on fixing many bugs and balances of some elements, but also brings completely new game mechanics, further deepening the close connection between the game and the general rules of Dungeons & Dragons, on which Baldur’s Gate III is of course based. Swen Vincke described some of them in a new developer diary, but we can tell in advance that he didn’t talk about all the news, so we expect a long list when the patch arrives on July 13th.

The first innovation Vincke mentioned was a redesigned dice roll system. As you no doubt know, Baldur’s Gate III wants to be as true to the aforementioned rules of D&D as possible, so this is a turn-based matter, where most events are decided by throwing a virtual dice. However, it will now be possible to add various random bonuses to the throws, based on the character of your character, or other characters in the party, if they are physically present and can affect a specific roll. Thanks to this, it is possible to succeed even in places where it would not be possible before the new patch, which Vincke demonstrates at the entrance to the chapel. It’s not easy through the locked main gate, but with bonuses to the throw, Vincke was able to open the entrance instead of looking for an alternative route. The game, of course watchingas you go through it and in other interactions it takes into account your progress and, for example, the specific way in which you got to the mentioned chapel.

An opulent set of announcements will be added to the game via the upcoming patch – allegedly up to 800 for each character.

Another thing that will be added to Baldru’s Gate III are the rewards for trying to really “play” your character. The mechanism is directly linked to another novelty – the socio-social background on which your character is based – which is associated with small tasks. If you complete them, the game will give you points of inspiration or experience, and it will most likely be a fun detour from the main tasks, which will not be possible without a funny comment. After all, the upcoming patch will also include an opulent set of messages – allegedly up to 800 for each character, with more to be added in the future – commenting on any clicks to determine movement or other activities. According to Vincke, this adds to the overall credibility and richness of the experience, but there is undoubtedly a lot of work behind it, which may not be immediately apparent.

In line with the improved overall impression of the game, the people of Larian they reached out also for campsites where your party can relax after a hard day adventure. The changes are mainly of a visual nature, where the background of the camp and all the cutscenes correspond to the place where you actually broke the camp. So instead of the wilderness, which was a universal place to rest, no matter if you were taking a nap in a cave, for example, you will now see a suitable environment that – admittedly – looks really nice. But a new layer of playability has also been added, linked to the quality and scope of relaxation. Vincke pointed out that the new mechanism should make you care more about food, which is one of the key aspects of rest, and at the same time you have to reckon with the fact that the characters at higher levels will not be satisfied by just any fish stew.

Like the main designer of the game, we would probably describe a lot of virtual paper if we wanted to capture everything essential and interesting, but it is undoubtedly worth mentioning the possibility of non-lethal attacks, if you are a pacifist. Improved artificial intelligence of opponents, which is manifested not only by the increased difficulty of the fights, but also by their richness in terms of ideas and the use of all available means not only from you but also from enemies. Animations during the casting of spells were also allegedly discussed, a new way of help will appear in the game and those of you whose hearts burned towards Shadowheart will be given another portion of her story and also the opportunity to free her during the tutorial. Or not, it’s – like most things in Baldur’s Gate III – entirely up to you.

The only news that bothers us, but actually calms us down a bit, is the expected release date – the developers don’t want to promise anything, which they have repeated many times, but hope that the expected continuation of one of the most famous RPG series will be ready to leave early access sometimes in next year.
