Balcony power plant and solar generator: An explosive mixture
The high electricity prices in Germany are motivating more and more people to buy a balcony power plant in order to produce their own electricity. Many also buy a solar generator to get a little more security in the event of a power failure. The two devices can work well together if you don’t make a big mistake. The protective mechanism fails here.
Do not combine balcony power plant and solar generator incorrectly
If you own a balcony power plant and a solar generator, then you can combine these well in order to tap off excess electricity and not give it away via the grid feed-in. You basically equip your balcony power plant with a battery, which is actually not intended. But with my not very simple method it works. But there is a danger you must know. You may Never plug the power plug of the balcony power plant directly into the solar generator.
It is usually the case that a balcony power plant only works if the frequency of the power grid is detected. But that also happens if you plug a balcony power plant directly into a solar generator. The solar generator recognizes the device and supplies electricity. That Balcony power station detects a grid frequency and also supplies electricity. The grid and system protection (NA protection), which is actually supposed to prevent this, does not actually work here because it cannot distinguish whether the frequency really comes from the power grid or from another source. The solar generator can’t do anything either, because the sockets only output electricity, not receive it. The disaster is perfect.
If you connect your balcony power station directly to the socket of a solar generator and both sides supply electricity, this only works as long as more electricity is consumed somewhere than supplied. If the balcony power plant really feeds into the socket and the electricity has nowhere to go, then it will Solar generator destroyed. In the best case, it only affects the electronics. In the worst case, the batteries can be damaged and possibly even cause damage. Anyone who has ever charged a battery that is not allowed to be charged knows what I am talking about.
What you need to know about balcony power plants:
Connect solar cells to solar generator
Although you cannot connect the balcony power plant to a solar generator, you can at least connect the solar cells of the balcony power plant via MC4 connectors. But you also have to make sure that your solar generator can handle the power and voltage of the solar modules. Personally, I will try my not very easy method in the summer in order to give away as little electricity as possible. That way I can save even more money.
