Auto-swap Apple Watch watch faces
When you look under ‘Watches’ in the Apple Watch app, you’ll see a whole range of cool watch faces. To customize a watch face, you must manually add it to your Apple Watch. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Apple Watch watch faces change automatically at a certain time of day? You can read how to do that here!
Use commands to switch Apple Watch watch faces
To switch your Apple Watch watch faces automatically, you’ll need the help of the Assignments app. That app is installed by default on your iPhone, but when you have thrown it off, you can easily remove Assignments from the App Store.
The Shortcuts app is quite easy to use, but you do need to take the time to set up the automatic switching of Apple Watch watch faces properly.
It is also smart to have a few different Apple Watch watch faces set up on your Apple Watch in advance. It is only possible to switch between the watch faces that are already on your Apple Watch. Now that you’ve done all that, you’re good to go!
- Open the ‘Assignments’ app on your iPhone that your Apple Watch is connected to;
- Tap ‘Automation’ at the bottom and choose ‘Personal automation’;
- Tap “Time” and enter the time when you want your Apple Watch face to change automatically;
- Under ‘Repeat’, choose ‘Everyday’, then tap ‘Next’;
- Choose ‘Add task’ and type ‘Watch watch face’ in the search field;
- In the search results, tap ‘Set up watch face’;
- Tap the blue text ‘Watch face’ in the frame at the top;
- You will now see the names of all the watch faces already on your Apple Watch. When you browse the installed watch faces on your Apple Watch, you’ll see the Watch Face name at the top. This way you know exactly which name belongs to which dial. In Shortcuts, tap the name of the watch face you want to set automatically on your Apple Watch;
- Tap ‘Next’, turn off the slider at ‘Ask before executing’ and choose ‘Don’t ask’;
- Tap Done and the Apple Watch watch faces automatically switch is set up.
Set multiple times with Assignments
Now your Apple Watch changes the watch face at one specific time of the day, but of course you want to set multiple watch faces. To change the watch face at different times, go through the above steps a few more times. Then choose a different time and a different Apple Watch watch face to set.
