Atari changes direction again. He wants to make great games again -apkrig

Atari will soon change its video game strategy again. This time, it is moving away from free-to-play and mobile games in favor of big premium titles for consoles and PCs. The information was brought by the first GamesIndustry.biz magazine.

“Premium gaming is more in line with Atari’s DNA,” said Wade CEO J. Rosen. The change is so fundamental that Atari is likely to cut off several current live service titles. The company will also end its casino activities and back away from trying to enter the television business.

The first games under the new strategy are to arrive surprisingly early – by the end of this fiscal year, until March 31, 2022. These titles are also intended to strengthen the offer for the Atari VCS retro console, which we have not yet associated with major bonuses, so it is the question of what the manufacturer actually means.

The new plan is interesting, but unfortunately Atari, to its detriment in recent years, got rid of some important brands in favor of the competition.

The new corporate tactics are undoubtedly the work of the new director Rosen, who took over the leadership of Atari only in April. Whether he manages to dust off the famous name and restore at least part of its former brilliance is up to the stars. But the doubts are in place.

The Atari VCS console officially entered open sales on June 15 this year (for backers last December 14) after many delays, but criticisms are not very favorable. Many people agree that it’s basically just an overpriced obsolete little computer in a nice package.

We should also not forget the fact that a network of “gaming” hotels is to be established under the licensed Atari brand. The new plan is interesting, but unfortunately Atari, to its detriment in recent years, got rid of some important brands in favor of the competition. For example, in 2018, he sold the horror IP Alone in the Dark and the Act of War strategy to THQ Nordic. Already in 2013, THQ Nordic received the Desperados series from Atari.

Atari only announced the previous “new” strategy in April, when we worked on it in Vortex # 164.
