Apple Watch Series 4 and 5 get AssistiveTouch with watchOS 8.3
AssistiveTouch functionality debuts on Apple Watch Series 4 and 5 with watchOS 8.3. Until now, this was reserved for newer models of Apple watches.
AssistiveTouch arrives on the “old” Apple Watch
watchOS 8.3 is currently available as a release candidate and it is precisely this version that activated AssistiveTouch on the Apple Watch Series 4 and 5. It is an interesting addition, it is not necessarily necessary to have a more recent model.
Apple presented this feature last May to improve accessibility to its watch. Here is the description:
For users with limited mobility, AssistiveTouch allows you to use Apple Watch without having to touch the screen or controls. Built-in motion sensors, optical heart rate sensor, and on-device machine learning allow Apple Watch to detect the subtle differences in muscle movement and tendon activity that control a cursor over the body. screen by hand gestures such as pinching or tensing.
Apple has yet to release a specific release date for watchOS 8.3. But the availability should be made this week. There is usually a very short period between a release candidate and a final version for the public. In this case, the release candidate for watchOS 8.3 was released last week.
