New colorful iPad 2022
The regular iPad is still Apple’s cheapest iPad (from 2022) and has received a few significant improvements compared to previous years. With this, Apple brings the entry-level iPad more in line with other iPad models. This year Apple has also given the iPad 2022 some cheerful colors! However, we are a bit shocked by the price of this ‘entry-level model’.
New design and different place for the front camera
What’s new is that the button under the screen is missing, with which Apple has finally said goodbye to the home button with the iPad. The fingerprint scanner is still there, but Apple has integrated it – just like with the iPad Air and iPad mini – into the power button. Apple has completely removed the headphone jack on this iPad.
Partly due to the disappearance of the home button, there is now room for a larger ‘Liquid Retina’ screen. The screen diagonal now measures 10.9 inches, larger than the 10.2-inch screen of the previous generation iPad. The resolution is 2360 by 1640 pixels. In addition, the True Tone technology offers 500 nits of brightness.
iPad 2022 camera: better and in a different place
Another big change is in the placement of the Facetime camera. This ultra-wide camera is still at the top of the screen, but it is when you put it in landscape-mode. In other words: the front camera of the iPad 2022 is on the long side of the iPad.
The updated 12MP camera on the back of this iPad 2022 delivers high-resolution photos and can shoot 4K videos. According to Apple, the new stereo speakers in combination with the larger display of iPad should provide a better viewing and listening experience.
5G support and usb-c!
The iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini already had USB-C, but now the entry-level iPad has also exchanged the Lightning port for the universal connection. Usb-c has several advantages, including faster charging and faster data transfer. You can also connect more accessories to it, such as the new ‘Magic Keyboard Folio’.
Don’t worry, your first-generation Apple Pencil will still work. You have to use a special conversion piece. Fortunately, Apple has included this (clumsy solution) with the Apple Pencil. Current owners of an Apple Pencil 1 have to buy an adapter.
New under the hood: A14 Bionic chip
Of course, Apple has also refreshed the processor. The iPad 2022 is powered by the A14 Bionic chip, which can also be found in the iPhone 12 series. The processor is about thirty percent faster than the previous A13 chip.
If you choose an iPad 2022 with mobile internet, it also has support for 5G. This means that all recent iPads with Cellular now have support for 5G, just like the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13. Also, each version supports Wifi 6.

The new iPad 2022 can be ordered now and will be in stores from October 26. The device is available in a WiFi and Cellular version. You can choose from the colors Blue, Pink, Silver and Yellow.
