Apple TV + buys CODA, “La Famille Bélier” US version
Apple disbursed $ 25 million to acquire CODA, a film that will be available on Apple TV +. This is the American remake of the French film The Aries Family. This was created in 2014.
The purchase of CODA for Apple TV + took place during the Sundance Film Festival which was held virtually this year because of the health crisis. The $ 25 million also marks a record for rights during such an event. The previous record was last year with Palm springs for $ 22.5 million.
CODA (which stands for Child of Deaf Adults, meaning child of deaf adults) focuses on Ruby (played by Emilia Jones). She is the only one in her family who has no hearing problem. When the family fishing business is threatened, she finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and her fear of abandoning her parents.
Apple TV + is therefore the one who was able to block the rights for CODA. But it turns out that Apple’s streaming service wasn’t the only one. Indeed, Amazon also wanted to have the American remake of The Aries Family. But Tim Cook’s company wrote a bigger check.
The film, directed by Siân Heder, does not yet have a release date on Apple’s streaming service.
