Apple TV+ announces documentary about tennis player Boris Becker
Apple TV+ has secured broadcast rights for a new documentary that will will focus about the German tennis player Boris Becker. The exact title of the program has not yet been revealed.
The documentary, which will be in two parts, aims to explore all aspects of the man who became a tennis sensation after winning the Wimbledon Championships at the age of 17, going on to claim 49 titles in career, including six Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal, as well as his sometimes tumultuous personal life.
The program comes from Alex Gibney and John Battsek. The filmmakers had privileged access to Boris Becker for more than three years, until the end of April 2022, when he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for hiding assets and loans in order to avoid to pay his debts. The documentary features a series of personal interviews with the tennis player, including an exclusive chat with the champion the week of his sentencing, alongside close family members and tennis stars including John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Novak Djokovic, Mats Wilander and Michael Stich.
As said before, there is not yet a release date. Apple TV+ will announce it later.
