A documentary on Sidney Poitier will be released on Apple TV +. The American actor died on January 6 at the age of 94 at his home in Los Angeles in the Beverly Hills neighborhood.

Some might think that Apple TV + is taking advantage of the death of Sidney Poitier to offer this documentary. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, this project has actually been in preparation for over a year now and the actor’s family is involved in its implementation. Harpo Productions, the company of American animator Oprah Winfrey, is in charge of the project. Oprah Winfrey has a multi-year agreement with Apple for various projects. Reginald Hudlin will be the director.
There is currently no information released on the content of the documentary on Sidney Poitier scheduled for Apple TV +, except that it will deal with his life. The release date is also unknown.
Sidney Poitier was the first black comedian to win the Oscar for Best Actor for the film Lily of the fields. After this performance that made him a star, the Oscar winner continued to pave the way for other minority artists by starring in films such as In the heat of the Night, Guess who’s coming to dinner … and Angels with Clenched Fists.
Regarding Reginald Hudlin, the director is already working with Apple TV +. It produces two programs. The first is called Number One on the Call Sheet and talks about black men in Hollywood. The second, which has no title, focuses on black women leaders, with Shola Lynch directing.
