Apple has removed the LG Ultrafine 5K monitor from its range. The display was for years the external monitor for MacBook users, but now has a successor: the more expensive Studio Display.

LG Ultrafine 5K from the Apple range

The LG Ultrafine 5K monitor is no longer for sale through Apple. The display may be withdrawn from the market completely, because LG itself no longer has it in stock. You can currently still buy the monitor via web stores such as Amac.

Apple has not sold an external display for consumers in recent years. As a result, the LG Ultrafine 5K was the appropriate choice if you were looking for a large screen to connect your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro to. With a size of 27 inches and a resolution of 5K, it was a good match for Apple’s laptops. In addition, the screen has a built-in webcam.

The Studio Display is the successor to the LG Ultrafine 5K

Apple finally unveiled its own monitor during the March event last week: the Studio Display. It has a much nicer design, the same 5K resolution, and a better webcam with Center Stage. In addition, the peak brightness is slightly higher with 600 nits and the screen has six built-in speakers. It is therefore only logical that Apple removes the LG Ultrafine 5K from its range.

Apple monitors are not cheap

The Studio Display is better than the LG Ultrafine 5K, but also a lot more expensive. You put down at least 1779 euros for it, while the LG cost 1399 euros. If you want to be able to adjust the monitor in height, you even pay 2239 euros. With the LG that was a standard option.

In fact, the Studio Display is just a 27-inch iMac without the computer inside. The screen is therefore very expensive. It could also be much crazier. Apple’s 32-inch Pro Display XDR, with 6K resolution, costs at least 5499 euros. If you want a standard with it, an additional 1099 euros will be added.
