Apple no longer signs iOS 16.1 and iOS 16.1.1: restore and update blocked

Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.1, as well as iOS 16.1.1 at its servers. This means that it is no longer possible to switch to these two versions in particular, either with an update or a restore.

Apple released the final version of iOS 16.1 on October 24. This version brought several new features, including iCloud shared photo library, live activities for third-party apps, Fitness+ on iPhone without the need for an Apple Watch, key sharing function, Matter support for the connected home and other improvements.

As for iOS 16.1.1, the availability was on November 9th. Apple hasn’t been very vocal about this release, merely saying that it contains fixes and security-related improvements.

The version that is currently signed and can therefore be installed is iOS 16.1.2, available since November 30. This version was the opportunity to have better compatibility with operators and optimizations of accident detection on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

The next update will be iOS 16.2. Apple released the release candidate for developers and public testers yesterday. The final version for everyone should arrive within the next few days, probably early next week.
