Apple is working on an iPad with a titanium housing

How can Apple improve the iPad even further? Well, by tackling the outside, for example. According to a new rumor, the company is working on an iPad with a titanium housing. This should make the tablet lighter and sturdier.

‘iPad with titanium housing on the way’

iPads have always had an aluminum housing, but that could change in the future. According to a report by DigiTimes Apple is working on an iPad made of titanium.

That material has many advantages. It’s much lighter than aluminum, making it even easier to carry your iPad. Apple can also make the iPad thinner without compromising its sturdiness. Titanium is very strong and also resistant to scratches. Apple would therefore also like to give the iPhone Pro models a titanium housing in 2022. Some Apple Watch 6 models already have them.

DigiTimes does not mention which iPads will soon be made of titanium. However, since it is quite a precious metal, we can guess about this. It is likely that the iPad Pro models will be the first to benefit from this. That could be an additional reason to choose Apple’s most expensive tablet. Moreover, we may then be rid of the problem that the iPad Pro bends a little too easily.

We will probably see these iPads this year

This year we do not expect an iPad with a titanium housing. The iPad Pro was still updated last spring. We do think we will see two fresh tablets from Apple this fall with a slightly friendlier price tag. The ‘regular’ iPad may have a lighter and thinner design.

In addition, the new iPad mini would have a larger screen. The small tablet may follow the iPad Air 2020 in terms of design. That means narrower screen edges and a Touch ID sensor in the power button.
