Hydration sensor for Apple Watch coming

Apple has patented a hydration sensor for the Apple Watch. That discovered Patently Apple. The new hydration sensor comes in the form of non-invasive electrodes that are placed against the skin. Apple describes it as a “reliable and elegant” way to measure hydration.

“Traditional techniques for measuring hydration are generally invasive, expensive or unreliable,” Apple said. With this, the company refers to existing ways of measuring hydration, such as single-use tests. Apple’s sensor measures the user’s hydration based on sweat drops on the skin.

Drink enough water, but not too much…

Apple says the hydration measurement system works “non-invasively, repetitively, accurately and automatically.” According to the patent, the Apple Watch encourages users to drink more or less water based on hydration data. Many people forget to drink enough water during the day. A hydration sensor could be a good solution.

Drinking too much or too little water has significant consequences for a person’s health. Dehydration is linked to several health problems. Think of strokes, headaches and concentration problems. Drinking too much can lead to fatigue, confusion or even death. Do you really have to drink a lot?

Patents do not guarantee the arrival of new features. However, every feature starts with a patent. So it could just be that the Apple Watch will have a hydration sensor in the near future.
