Apple is breaking up: the popular iPhone app is being phased out
After years, Apple is pulling the plug on a popular iPhone app. More than two years earlier, the Android version of “Dark Sky” soft. Apple’s alternative has been “hiding” directly in the system since iOS 16.
Update from January 2, 2023: Just in time for the beginning of the year, the iOS version of the popular Dark Sky weather app Caught. As of now, this is no longer available in the App Store and current users can no longer use the app either – over and over.
When Apple bought the weather app in March 2020, only the end of the Android app was in sight. Apple users have been able to continue using the app for the last few years, but 2023 is now the end. Apple had already informed previous users in one go support documentas they henceforth with the Weather app in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 can use a profound alternative (source: Apple).

Weather app for Android on Apple’s hit list
The app versions for Android and WearOS are to be discontinued, downloading will no longer be possible. The service for existing users and subscribers will continue until July 1, 2020, but then the app will be permanently switched off. After all: Subscribers who are still active at this time will receive a refund. Third-party developers will also have to do without the app’s programming interface in the future – the end of 2021 will be the end.
Unlike the iOS app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch – Dark Sky Weather will continue to be available for download and purchase in the App Store until further notice. The weather app costs $3.99 on the US app store. In this country, however, it is currently not available.

What is Apple planning with Dark Sky Weather?
Of course, the question is: What does Apple intend to do with the app and the developers? It makes sense to hope for new innovations and approaches in Apple’s own weather app, which has been handled cautiously in recent years.
