Development of Apple Car continues steadily

Apple is still working on the much-discussed Apple Car. Every so often something is revealed about the mysterious project. Now it turns out that Apple recently hired two former Mercedes engineers. In their previous roles, the engineers focused on vehicle mass production, vehicle control, dynamics, and software and project management.

According to MacRumors the new employees are connected by Apple to the “Special Projects Group”. This is a team that deals with all kinds of top secret projects and future products. Think of things like a possible AR/VR headset and therefore also the Apple Car.

The Apple Car, known internally as Project Titan, is one of Apple’s top secret projects. Apple’s ultimate goal in the auto industry remains unclear despite a myriad of rumors. The two new hires follow in the footsteps of many other engineers and executives from the automotive industry. So it is clear that Apple is indeed working on cars.

Apple continues to expand its workforce with talents needed during car development. However, Project Titan lost several top executives over the course of the year. This would have caused the Apple Car to be delayed. Kevin Lynch, known for his work on the Apple Watch, is currently in charge.

More about the Apple Car

We’ve been hearing rumors about the Apple Car for years. Hyundai recently announced that it had spoken with Apple, but that the talks ultimately came to nothing. We actually know almost nothing about a possible car from Apple. What is certain is that Apple is following the electric car industry with great interest.

For example, at the end of 2020, a former Porsche CEO switched to Apple to work on the mysterious project. Apple also acquired a series of start-ups involved in (autonomous) driving, such as Drive.AI.
