Apple customers have been staring at the tube for 4 years

Spotify, which is still the world’s leading music streaming service, has its Apple customers floundering. The reason: The provider’s iPhone and iPad app still does not support AirPlay 2, although the support promise for this is still in the room.

When it comes to criticizing Apple and an alleged monopoly of the App Store, Spotify has been unstoppable for years and is at the forefront. When it comes to integrating important Apple features for the iPhone and iPad, there is less commitment. Even today, the streaming provider’s app does not support AirPlay 2although the opposite was promised half a year ago (source: MacRumors).

Apple customers angry: Spotify still without AirPlay 2

Until now though Spotify doesn’t lift a finger, users still have to do without the convenience of second-generation Apple technology. As a reminder, in May 2018, Apple introduced AirPlay 2 with several improvements, including multi-room audio, Siri voice control, and improved data buffering. Even now, nearly four years later, Spotify is ignoring the evolved interface and sticking with supporting the original AirPlay.

Spotify has not yet commented on the subject to colleagues from MacRumors, they are silent. Incidentally, Apple itself is not holding Spotify back, on the contrary. Appropriate information is available for developers on how to integrate AirPlay 2 into their own apps (source: Apple). However, this does not seem to have arrived at the market leader yet.

Some useful tips and tricks for Spotify:

HomePod is also ignored

Not only does Spotify fail at AirPlay 2, either Apple’s speakers (HomePod and HomePod mini) are ignored, there is still no direct, native integration of the music streaming service. Although Apple has made this possible since 2020 and Spotify previously explicitly complained about the previously existing lockout.

Bottom line: Spotify had better do their homework before they go big. The paying customers wait and slowly despair. In the end, you’re just hurting yourself and driving users straight into the arms of Apple Music. The iPhone manufacturer says thank you.
