Saving foxes will now get their money’s worth a little more with Klarna: the payment app has a new function that makes shopping easier for bonus hunters. The idea is not new, but should expand Klarna’s range in a meaningful way.

New at Klarna: save customer cards in the smartphone app
Users of the Klarna app can look forward to a new feature that is now available. In the finance app you can Save bonus cards from different providers and use them via the app. The financial service provider announces that this should put an end to the chaos of cards in your wallet.
For this purpose, a digital copy of your customer card is created in the app. It can be used like the physical card when shopping in the store. Just the Scan the barcode on the smartphone screen and the points from your most recent purchase will be credited to the respective points account. Some bonus programs also allow you to exchange the points you have collected for a purchase discount.
Of course, the idea is not new: Klarna took over the Stocard app in 2021, which offers exactly that: a smartphone wallet for storing digital bonus cards. As part of the takeover, the offer is now also available in the Klarna app. 8,000 partners worldwide with their own loyalty cards and bonus programs should be on board, 780 of them in Germany.
MediaMarkt, Lidl and Kaufland included at the start
Some are already there at the start Media Markt, Tchibo, Lidl, Kaufland and Douglas. Other partners and their programs will be integrated over time.
This is how you save your customer cards in the Klarna app:
- Click on the customer card symbol on the Klarna app start page and select “Add card”.
- Choose your provider from the searchable provider list or enter it manually.
- Deposit your own card, scan the barcode with a camera or enter your membership number manually.
How to save money when shopping online:
The loyalty card function is not the only step with which Klarna expands the range. A lot has been planned for 2022. An unrivaled high interest rate for fixed-term savings has already been called.
The question remains whether Klarna still needs both: the Stocard app as an independent offer and the same functions within its own app. We asked Klarna about the future of the Stocard app. Officially, there are currently no plans to discontinue the Stocard app.
