Another studio develops exclusively for Microsoft
Microsoft’s shopping spree continues! So the next game from the developer studio People Can Fly will appear exclusively for the Xbox. We’ll tell you what we already know about Project Maverick and what Xbox fans can probably look forward to.
People Can Fly work exclusively for Microsoft
The studio behind Bulletstorm and Outriders has signed an exclusive contract with Microsoft. Accordingly, their next game will appear exclusively for the Xbox Series X|S. Not much is known about Project Maverick, but Microsoft is providing the Polish developer studio a production budget of between $30 and $50 million available (source: People Can Fly).
Measured by the studio’s previous CV the new game will probably also be a shooter. Incidentally, the announcement does not indicate whether Project Maverick is a completely new brand or possibly a continuation of an already established series from Microsoft.
In the past, People Can Fly were among others for Gears of War: Judgment and the PC port from the first Gears of War. A new offshoot of the popular action series would therefore be quite conceivable.
Since the announcement is super fresh though, the release of Project Maverick will still be a long way off.
Here’s how players are reacting to the new Xbox deal
On social media, especially Twitter, the report was received with mixed feelings. The budget in particular is hotly debated, as many users cannot imagine a blockbuster game for 30 to 50 million US dollars.
The previous vita of the studio also causes some mocking comments. Gears of War: Judgment has a mixed reputation among shooter fans and Outriders is considered a moderate flop for publisher Square Enix.
Other users, on the other hand, want a sequel to Bulletstorm. The brute shooter from 2011 has achieved a certain cult status over the years and was even relaunched in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
