Updates are not only distributed several times for smartphones and tablets, updates also appear for televisions with Android TV. These updates clearly appear less often and less quickly than updates for smartphones, for example. A new update is now official; Google presents Android TV 13. As a consumer, you will not encounter major changes, as is clear from the list of improvements and new functions. Most of the changes are at the back, and therefore mainly for the developers.

The interface of Android TV 13 is almost identical to that of the predecessor. We see the larger adjustments, for example, in setting options. This gives users the ability to adjust the resolution and refresh rate on supporting HDMI source devices. Another improvement has to do with energy saving, there is also a new API for keyboard layouts and privacy and accessibility has been improved in Android TV 13. This is reflected, for example, in switches that allow you to adjust things such as the microphone. Google is also adding an option that automatically pauses media when you switch to a different source device on a different HDMI port. Google has shared a changelog detailing the new features in Android TV 13.

Although Google has released Android TV 13, when the update will be available for televisions is not known. Developers will now slowly but surely get started, but there are also plenty of new TVs that run on Android TV 11. It is unclear which smart TVs will receive the update to version 13 and when. Google’s own Chromecast was also equipped with Android TV 12 not too long ago.
