Android 14 Developer Preview 1 released by Google

Google has released the first test version of Android 14 earlier than expected. In total there will be six test versions of Android 14 and now it is the turn of Developer Preview 1, which you can use immediately if you have a Pixel device.

Unexpectedly, Google Android 14 has shown the light. From now on you can get started with Android 14 Developer Preview 1. A new test version of the latest version of the Android operating system. Google indicates that a total of two Developer Preview versions will appear. After that it is the turn of four beta versions. From the third beta, specific work will be done on the stability of the platform. Some functions may be added and disappear in the near future.

At the moment, the new version has just been released. That means that it may take a while until it is known what is new in Android 14. Earlier, the necessary messages about it surfaced. For example, Android 14 would not allow you to install outdated apps and it would offer a collection for all your fitness data. Another feature circulating in the rumor mill is about the change in the back gesture. Google would also follow Apple and add a possibility to connect via satellites. We also expect improvements in the field of standby, which should benefit the battery life.

Google is making the first Developer Preview version available as a test version for the Pixel 4a 5G and above. This means that ‘the standard’ Pixel 4a will not receive the update to Android 14. If you want to get started, it is good to know that this Developer Preview is not recommended for daily use, simply because the software may still contain errors.
