Android 14 Beta 1.1 update fixes many bugs on Pixel phones

A few weeks after the Android 14 beta went live, the first update is now available. Among other things, all kinds of bugs are ironed out and the beta could use that. The problem around the fingerprint scanner in particular could use a solution and it is now available.

Android 14

The beta of Android 14 has been live since April 13 and that’s how you can join it. The biggest issues with the beta were that the under-display fingerprint scanner didn’t work properly on Pixel phones. There were also some problems with accessing the backgrounds and that has also been resolved. A total of five things are mentioned that need to be improved, these are them:

  • Fixed an issue where the system UI would crash when trying to open the Wallpaper & Style screen from the Settings app, or by long pressing from the home screen. (Issue #277938424)
  • Fixed some issues that prevented fingerprint unlock from being used. (Issue #272403537)
  • Fixed an issue where the status bar was not displaying the mobile network. (Issue #277892134)
  • Fixed an issue where a SIM card or eSIM was not detected or activated in some cases. (Issue #278026119)
  • Fixed an issue where the lock screen would display an unresolved string message when Smart Lock was enabled. (Issue #278011057)

Sounds like an update that your smartphone could use. You’ll get it automatically if you’re already on the Android beta program. It comes over-the-air and is called Android 14 Beta 1.1.

Beta

Android 14 is not the most exciting update ever: it is mainly an extension of the themes that were deployed in Android 13, such as security, performance, productivity and privacy. You can test the beta if you have a Pixel, but not every Pixel. These are available for the beta: Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro.
