Android 12 now works on 13.3% of all Android phones

One in eight Android devices currently runs on Android 12, according to new distribution figures shared by Google. Android 11 is the most popular version, followed by Android 10.

Android 12 distribution figures

On Monday, it was announced that Android 13 will be available for Pixel phones, and the update will be available on more and more Android phones in the coming weeks and months. However, Android 12 is currently not the version that you can find on most Android devices, according to the new distribution figures from Google that 9To5Google shares.

27% of all phones and tablets with Android run on Android 11. Android 10 is the second most used version with 18.8%, followed by Android 9 Pie (14.5%). Only then do we see Android 12 appear in the table with distribution figures. 13.5% of Android devices currently run on these and just under 0.2% of those have beta software. It seems that Android 12 is less likely to appear on new devices compared to Android 11, but it’s difficult to compare the two situations because Google doesn’t share distribution figures on a regular basis.

Figures from November 2021 showed that Android 10 was the most popular Android version, but Android 11 has now caught up. Android 10 ran on 26.5% of all Android devices at the end of last year, compared to 24.3% running Android 11. This year, Google was relatively quick with the release of its Android 13 update, especially if you know that the stable version of Android 12 was only announced in October of 2021.

Android Auto Support

Google recently announced that older Android versions no longer work with Android Auto, the operating system for car infotainment systems. Phones with Android 7.0 Nougat or an older version are no longer supported. That is, 13.1% of Android devices cannot work with Android Auto.
