Android 12 gets a game mode and new accessibility option

The new functions of Android 12. XDA has already discovered a number of them, including a game mode.

Android 12 game mode

Google would work on a game mode in Android 12. In addition, there is probably an accessibility option on the way that allows blind and partially sighted people to adjust bright colors and a smart auto-rotate function will appear.

Game mode was discovered in the new “GameManager service”, as it appears to be called, and is described as a “service to manage game-related functions”. This allows users to “control game mode and save the data” during device reboot. While there are no further details, it is suspected that we are looking at an API that can automatically enable or disable settings like Do Not Disturb, Locked Screen Brightness, Auto Rotation and more as soon as you launch a game.

Does this sound familiar? That is certainly possible, because almost all smartphone manufacturers have already integrated such a mode in their software. With this function, we again see the takeover of functions from other smartphone manufacturers by Google, while previously this was often the case the other way around. Still, Google’s solution is welcome as the game mode could bring some consistency and standardization to game modes on different phones. This helps developers know what to expect when implementing certain features.

Android 12 bright colors

A new ‘Reduce Brightness’ option has also been found, which in Android 12 gets a place in the quick settings in the notification panel. It is probably an accessibility feature intended to help people with visual impairments. Unfortunately, there is no screenshot of the result of this feature once you enable it.

Android 12 smart auto rotation

It seems that auto-rotation in Android could be the next feature in line to partner with Google’s artificial intelligence. Google would be working on a function for ‘smart auto rotation’ in Android 12. The smart function would use the camera on the front of your phone to view the position of your head and adjust the orientation accordingly.

Android’s auto-rotation feature currently relies on your phone’s gyroscope and accelerometer. The function is not smart and often does not work well. For that reason, many people use third-party apps or disable auto-rotation completely, and instead use the rotate button in the quick settings.

Everything about Android 12

Android 12 may also get design changes and internally the new Android version is called Snow Cone. You can encounter this and more in Android 12, but beware, they are rumors. It is also not known whether the features make it to the stable version of Android 12. You can find our complete Android 12 overview on this page at Androidworld.
