Amazon wants to bring the dead to life

Ethically irresponsible? Amazon brings the dead to life with a new voice assistant.

When you consult a voice assistant in the car or on your smartphone, you often hear a robotic voice. In any case, it is clear that you are not dealing with a human being here. But what if you can hear the voice of a loved one or friend?

Amazon lets the dead speak

Amazon announced such technology at their own Re:Mars conference. According to the American tech company, this is designed to bring deceased loved ones back to life. By hearing the voice of a deceased person for just a few minutes, the AI can mimic the voice.

It sounds quite scary and vulnerable to malicious parties. After all, they can use the technology to chase relatives. And it really doesn’t just have to be used for the dead. After all, the voice of a living person can also be imitated.

Amazon, of course, sees it as a revenue model. The question is whether we should want this. Isn’t death just dead and should we leave the dead alone? This way there is never a closure. A bereaved person continues to ‘communicate’ with a deceased person through a device. No, that sounds very scary and weird.
