Amazon Prime is expanding its music offering. Members now have ad-free access to a total of 100 million songs and podcasts.

It wasn’t long ago that Amazon Prime turned the price screw. First, membership fees increased earlier in the year in the US. Since mid-September 2022, German subscribers have also been paying significantly more per month.

Now Amazon has apparently come up with something to make the price change more palatable to its customers. As of now, members have extended access to the Prime Audio offering. That shared the company in an official statement.

Prime members now have access to a total of 100 million songs. This includes artists, albums and a selection of playlists. The new subscription content also includes a larger selection of podcasts. In addition, subscribers should be able to stream the extended range of music without advertising.

In the meantime, Amazon seems to have high hopes for the new offer, as a comment by Steve Boom, Vice President of Amazon Music, suggests.

When Amazon Music first launched for Prime members, we gave them ad-free access to a catalog of two million songs, which was unique in music streaming at the time. As we continue to innovate on behalf of our customers, we now offer Prime members even more entertainment on top of the convenience and benefits they already love.

Music offer from Amazon Prime only available in random mode

However, Prime members should not be too quickly blinded by the enormous number of songs. Because although there are no commercial breaks for listeners, the new music offering does have one disadvantage: it can only be accessed in random mode.

In addition, only a selection of playlists based on the listening habits of the customers are available for streaming on demand and also offline. But there is good news: Users can skip unwanted songs indefinitely.

Music streaming service prices are on the rise

Nevertheless, with the expanded Prime music range, Amazon represents competition for other streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. Because there are also price increases there.

Apple recently increased its fees by up to 40 percent, including the music streaming service Apple Music. And according to media reports thinks too Spotify about an increase in monthly costs.
