Amazon Music works for free and without advertising for Prime customers

Amazon Music’s music library will be available to Prime customers in the United States. They can listen to music as part of their subscription. It is not clear whether the function will also work in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Amazon Music will be available to Prime subscribers in the United States. Prime gave users delivery benefits and access to the Prime Video streaming service, but according to The Verge, customers can now listen to Amazon Music’s 100 million songs, The Verge knows.

Amazon Music does have restrictions for Prime customers that are somewhat reminiscent of Spotify’s free model. Prime subscribers can only use the shuffle function when looking up artists, albums or playlists. So it doesn’t work on demand. In addition, they cannot listen to music with lossless quality, because that also requires a subscription to Amazon Music. Yet listeners with Prime do not hear advertising as they do with Spotify Free.

Podcast Previews

This also applies to the podcast offer that can be listened to via Amazon Music. Amazon is trying to make a difference with its podcasts thanks to a feature called Podcast Previews. You can listen to short fragments of an episode before you decide to listen to the full podcast. That works according to a TikTok model where you swipe vertically through short sound fragments. At the beginning of this year, it was announced that Spotify is working on a similar function.

It is not entirely clear whether Prime users in the Netherlands and Belgium will also have access to Amazon Music. We have contacted Amazon about this, but we are still waiting for a response. Amazon Music is the second largest music streaming service in the world after Spotify and Apple Music. A Prime subscription normally costs 2.99 euros per month.
