AltStore will remove the limitation of 3 installed applications (sideloading)

The AltStore tool, which allows you to install applications without going through the App Store (sideloading), is nice, but has a limit of three applications. It’s actually related to how Apple works. But the MacDirtyCow mechanism will make it possible to circumvent this limitation.

A MacDirtyCow-based system will be integrated with AltStore so that iOS or iPadOS 14.x-16.1.2 users can install more than three apps through the tool. An option will appear in the settings and will enable or disable the mechanism.

The feature is currently being tested with AltStore’s 1.6.1 beta. The first beta arrived earlier this month and the second debuted a few days ago. It is currently available to members. Patreon. The final version, which does not yet have a release date, will be available for everyone free of charge.

As a reminder, AltStore should become “obsolete” with iOS 17 because Apple should add sideloading support. The manufacturer will do this not to please users, but because the DMA, namely a new European Union directive, will force manufacturers to make adjustments. In particular, this means no longer forcing users to go through stores such as the App Store or the Play Store to install applications. There will be alternative App Stores and the ability to download apps from the Internet.
